So, there is a need to rebuild xrdp against HWE 18.04.
Maybe Ubuntu should provide a new binary package, let's say "xrdp-
hwe-18.04"

Thank you for fix. I can confirm this to be effective on Ubuntu 18.04
setup here. Pulled update from proposed repository. Rate of bug
reproducibility was getting more and more intensive with the time. In
the end there was quite no boot with right screen resolution. Fix
resolved it immediately. If

The fix (workaround) for this bug in bionic and cosmic was to add
'options edns0' to the /etc/resolv.conf file via the systemd stub-
resolv.conf file.
However, when the resolvconf package is installed, due to bug 1817903,
