I turned the screen saver off in settings.
If IMANUALLY lock the screen when I restart it shows the standard login (not
the screensaver login) and that works fine.

This bug recurred with the last two 20.04 Updater packages, starting
mid-September. The initramfs upacking bug 1835660 recurred about the

dealt with (installing from latest daily-live current image). So affects
even a fresh install. Seemed to appear in mid-September updates along
with recurrence of bug 1872159, the dreaded spinning Ubuntu logo hang on
startup. So a

Ubuntu 20.10 switched to use nftables by default and sshguard should be use
nftables by default as well, dropping the Ubuntu delta.
This also fixes LP: #1877615.

Thanks for testing! Glad that 5.0 and 5.8 works, so this is already
fixed.
For now, I'd suggest bisecting with the already available/built kernel
packages from the launchpad archive, which should be faster;
then eventually get down to git to identify it more closely.

* crashes when I select one specific commit in gitk or if I open gitk while
that commit is checked out as HEAD (thereby opening to that commit)
