I bisected mutter and gnome-shell until I identified the revision in
mutter that caused the regression:

For easier debugging this can be reproduced on any affected system
(Tried KVM and EC2) by just running:

Just got 1.75-1 version from jammy-proposed. After a reboot, all the
previous errors reported above are now gone.
