apparently worked on the machine (notifications were shown on screen)

Oh, and concerning ext4 fragmentation, I find it strange that so much
fragmentation as cited above... The most fragmented ext4 FS I have is
about 8%, and strangely, another one which is almost full and its
content moderately often changed, stays low at about 2% even though I've
expected much more.
Still not fixed for Oneiric... :(

It's possible this is a duplicate of Bug #706089 which I reported
earlier.
A test to check if this is the same case would be to use an older
kernel, up to the exact version 2.6.32-24 because in my case frequency
scaling works normally that way, but not with later kernels! I guess it
is the same

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i laptop, and CPU scaling works perfectly
with kernels up to 2.6.32-24. Any newer kernel in Ubuntu is unable to

Same here in Lucid.
In the Phone scan dialog, it apparently scans fine, finds my devices and writes
Bluetooth device scan completed, yet when I try to go Next, Back or exit, it
gives an error dialog which says Phone search is still active, you can not
continue. and it won't let me go anywhere,

How do you mean it resumes fine if it doesn't start previously open
programs?

Well, I have a similar case, my laptop definitely doesn't wake from
hibernation, and NetworkManager IS disabled when the machine boots
again.
In my case, relevant is Bug #577916 and if it's the same for you, then
this is a duplicate of that bug...

It seems it's not so.
After upgrading to Lucid the problem stays, perhaps it's even worse - it didn't
recognize the soundcard even once.
Other than that, problem description stays exactly the same. I've tried purging
PA and all its auxiliary packages, then reinstalled it, with no change.
Again,
I've been playing around with everything connected with sound. Seems
I've found the culprit! It's randomsound as far I can tell. It was
hogging the audio hardware, and uninstalling it brought back the sound.
I'll try rebooting the machine, and if PA stays functional, that's it.

This is quite annoying, first of all it drove me crazy where did the
power and sound icons go after upgrading to Lucid. I've tried everything
to fix it, took me a while to understand it only shows the first icon on
the vertical panel. Now I've moved it to my horizontal panel, but I'm
not quite
i have exactly the same problem - randomsound prevents pulseaudio from
detecting the sound device. Here is what happens:
