This bug has been fixed in Ubuntu 13.04.
I guess it's because Ubuntu doesn't use metacity anymore with Unity.

I also agree that the default resolution at the login screen is ugly.
Low resolution mirroring is bad. Windows 7 is using only the external
screen at its highest resolution at the login screen.
Also the guest session in Ubuntu uses the same ugly low resolution

I do have gnibbles installed, I can even start it with the Launcher and with
the gnome-nibbles command in the terminal, but issuing "gnibbles" says it's not
installed even thou apt-cache policy is telling me it is installed. Is this a
gnibbles bug or an apt-get one?
Exactly the same thing is happening with gcalctool. Apt-cache policy is
saying that it's installed, but when I try to start it Ubuntu is saying
that it's not installed.
