Using the information from Bug #453404, I patched the source files on
kubuntu 9.04 (linux-source-2.6.31) and compiled the module against the
headers linux-headers-2.6.31-16. After the patch, the driver module was
loaded (gspca_main, gspca_pac7311) and the device /dev/vide0 app
Problem also solved for me. Somehow my loopback device was removed from
/etc/network/interfaces. Adding the device again solved the problem.
I suspect it happend after a (broken) update of knetworkmanager. I would
suggest to mark this bug as solved. Thank you all for your helpl

Sorry for the late reply. After upgrade (2008-04-15) of the whole system, the
problem does still exist
Safe-mode option does not show any effect (4min load time until the safe-mode
dialog appears). No gnome support packages had been installed.
Purgin firefox and xulrunner and reinstalling it does
I have run the strace command (see attached stace1.log). Long latencies
where on the lines

The start-up of Mozilla Firefox 3.0b3 on Kubuntu Hardy Alpha 4 (8.04) takes
long time (>10min) or produces a termination of the process without error
