Just discovered that the -73 kernel, due to being unable to load modules
on Xenial, uses PS/2 rather than RMI4 to drive the touchpad which works
around the bug in any case. Anyway, my problem is similar
I just got the kernel installed. As I'm doing this on a xenial-based
system there are some incompatibilities (it seems to be unable to load
modules, so GPU acceleration and internet stop working), but the
touchpad is definitely working again.

swapon -a by default only enables swap partitions that are in fstab, and
ecryptfs-setup-swap comments the old swap's line there, so the correct
swap is mounted on boot. And with the encrypted swap as provided by
ecryptfs-setup-swap, hibernate is not possible so you shouldn't mind
overwriting data

Go to Network Settings or Network Connections, edit the Eduroam connection, and
go to the WiFi Security tab.
Here set the authentication type to Protected EAP instead of the default
Tunneled TLS which is wrong for eduroam, at least on my university.
About power management settings being ignored, please ask on the forum
of Ubuntu (or the distro you are using) or open a new bug. It should be
unrelated to this bug, you just never saw this problem because you were
never able to hibernate at all.

right in 14.04. It looks like the system no longer recognizes the
cryptswap's UUID on boot.
However using /dev/sda6 is not a solution for me. I have a hot-pluggable
disk which always becomes /dev/sda when it is present on
On Trusty, blkid is also unable to read the UUID of a swap partition of a
Raring system, while that swap is working fine on Raring.

rfkill list says your wifi is blocked by acer-wireless, that's why it's shown
as disabled. Wicd probably ignores this as the wifi card itself (phy0) is not
blocked.

libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental
Modern Ubuntu releases still blacklist the module. The conflict with
snd-intel8x0 was a bug from 2004 which has been solved. Nearly every distro
does not blacklist snd-intel8x0m anymore. No one has problems with it being
loaded when dial-up is not in use.
We should really remove this blacklist
This bug is ONLY about the BCM4312 aka 14e4:4315. It does not apply to
other Broadcom cards. Please post your comments about BCM4306, BCM4318
and BCM4311 somewhere else.

I just found that 14e4:4315 works fine when installing
firmware-b43-lpphy-installer instead of firmware-b43-installer.
14e4:4315 is the only known LP-PHY device which is working with the b43 driver.
So this applies to 14e4:4315 only.
You can check the PCI ID of your device with:
lspci -nn |
Public bug reported:
14e4:4315 is supported by B43 from kernel 2.6.33 on, but Natty's
b43-fwcutter still does not like it.
Not supported low-power chip with PCI id 14e4:4315!
But it IS supported:

Oneiric gets X.Org 1.10 so as soon as the updated nvidia-96 hits the
main repo, the problem is gone for both Natty and Oneiric.
As soon as I get time to assemble a computer out of spare components, I
can try my Geforce4 Ti 4600 card to see if the natty-proposed package
works on it.

At the nvidia binary driver, the 32-bit libs are shipped in the amd64
package. I did not know that it was different for open-source drivers.
But OK, I'll wait for the next release and hope that it indeed works as
described.
