I can reproduce this, with 64bit ubuntu 10.04, $ evince --version Visualizador de Documentos do GNOME 2.30.3 $ xpdf -v xpdf version 3.02 Copyright 1996-2007 Glyph Cog, LLC With poppler-data installed. I think it's probably a font issue, althougj this is hard to verify. -- Evince displays

I had the same problem, and could reproduce pulse weirding itself out after failing to load the esound module. Removing it from /etc/pulse/default.pa completely fixed the problem. Also, pulse wouldn't even start with the computer, and I had to manually use alsa to get the sound to work. This is
