No, not 100% sure -- everytime I've tested was through the interface
that only shows up if Apache is installed, and I've had my friends w/
OSX test. Almost positive it's apache user writing the files, based on
watching ps output.

I'm experiencing these issues as well. Always after a resume, and so
far never the first suspend/resume of an uptime.
I'm running the 10.04 beta (couldn't run anything earlier because of
very new KMS on this Intel chipset).

I'm old time linux user, but new to ubuntu/debian style distros. I did
a cursory search of synaptic for personal file sharing, and came up with
nothing.

For the record, installing apache2 fixed this.
... and also for the record, once installed, everything works as expect
*and* there's nice UI options for sharing from the file manager
(nautilus). Great!

I'd like to also point out that the VPCS111FM is a Best Buy Blue Label
laptop. Not that this matters much, but Ubuntu is going to see a lot
more of this chipset for that reason, and it seems to be a popular one
in general.
The Lucid beta1 has fixed a lot of my issues with the alpha series
I have a VPCS111FM as well.
I can confirm that kernel 2.6.33-rc8 or newest alsa-drivers 1.0.22.1 fix
the issue (I'm testing out Lucid A2 after having a working Gentoo
install, so I spent time debugging this).
Also, there's a project here, http://code.google.com/p/vaio-f11-linux/
