Running Gutsy/x86/Lenovo t60 Thinkpad.
Any attempt to change monitor brightness fails. The fn-home/fn-end
keystrokes do not work, nor does gnome-power-manager change it. In fact,
gnome shows the brightness to be at 100%, while

I found that if I boot into failsafe terminal, edit
/etc/network/interfaces and uncomment the eth1 line, it will boot. To
use the network, then, I have to go back into the file, and comment it
out.
