Your "closing" is bogus. It's clearly wrongheaded behaviour for Eye of
Gnome to open a .gif file, yet refuse to allow you to save that .gif
file. My wife uses Thunderbird for email and opened an attachment which
was a .gif file then wanted to save that same file, unchanged. Eye of
Gnome threw up

Plus nm-applet really shouldn't segfault because it can't find the
binary. I was away from network connectivity (as you usually are when
you try to ad-hoc, otherwise you'd just both connect to the
infrastructure) when I tried this a couple of days ago.

While readahead-desktop makes some sense for a gnome ubuntu machine, it
doesn't make any sense on an xubuntu or kubuntu install.

% sudo ln -s /bin/true /bin/my_persistent_disk_rules
Which is enough since I don't have an /etc/udev/rules.d/65-persistent-
disk.rules
