My upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy did not go all smoothly. My steps were:
1. In preparation for the upgrade, I uninstalled Pidgin and re-installed
ubuntu-desktop (which contains Gaim, incompatible with Pidgin). All looked
perfectly normal

I just saw a problem that looks very much the same, after upgrade from
Feisty to Gutsy. Worked fine before.
