On my 16:10 Widescreen LCD (native resolution 1680*1050) Ubuntu's upslash is
horizontally stretched.
i believe this is due to only 16:9 usplash images being included in the
package.
Wouldn't it be a good addition to also include a 16:10

Happens to me too. Auto-mounted partitions are only visible in /media/ not in
Computer, which would be the better, more user friendly behavior imho.
Pretty sure it's that mentioned HAL bug.

don't have a xorg.conf, since xorg 7.2 let's me autoconfig it.

the expected behavior, since the fglrx driver does not support AIGLX
(respectively the texture from pixmap extension).
in order to be able to use Desktop Effects you need to use the open source
ati or radeon driver.

Happens to me too! ever since i've been using easytag.
i select a couple tracks and want then click Misc-CD Data Base Search and
every so often searching makes the entire applications lock up.
