The problem seems to be that there was a series of security problems
with the kernel module and it was dropped from the upstream kernel:

Yep, just hit the same problem. It looks like the kernel doesn't have that
module configured. I solved the problem
by removing xserver-xorg-video-mach64 and xserver-xorg-video-ati (and
xserver-xorg-video-all) and it seems to work on whatever it's fallen back on.

This laptop works with 4.2.0-19 and fails with 4.3.0-2.
At boot (before X) the display is corrupt - with the entire screen
shifted halfway across the screen with the kernel boot text mostly
readable, just shifted over (and some crud at the top). X doesn't

Although there's a whole bunch of slowpath warnings in the logs.
(I say seems to work - I'm running it now in KDE apparently OK; on the first

OK, it sounds like what you've got there is different from the original bug -
the fact it recovers means it's not completely dead.
Check your configuration of your virtual machine in virt-manager (or whatever
