This is the closest match I could find to the problem I'm experiencing.
Every Kernel update above 5.4.0-59-generic on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS on this
Thinkpad T580 docked on the Thinkpad Ultra Docking Station causes the
computer to freeze up either just before the login screen, on the login
screen or sh
Revisiting this as the fix I posted was inaccurate. I did manage to
resolve it successfully as I will explain.
I had to manually upgrade the three packages in the dependency chain
that was causing the issue like so (order is important):
# keyboard-configuration console-setup-linux console-setup
This also happened to me on Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa (which is based on
20.04 Focal), and weirdly enough it appears to be fixed in Groovy
(20.10).

I tried "bluetoothctl". That's a neat tool that I didn't know about, but
I couldn't find a command that would let me send stuff from my phone
without interaction. I installed bt-obex and tried "bt-obex -s", which
allowed file transfer but I still had to acknowledge each one.

correctly. The warning message still exists, so I think it is a red
herring.

But "brightness regressions"? We're talking about basic control. How
does passing regression tests helps this issue? Or did people ignore

I just want to follow-up my discussion with Bernard Stafford

lots of native Linux games from steam have a screen tearing in multi-monitor
settings and when I downgrade my OS to Ubuntu 20.04 the
to happen only when an nginx reload is called.
Unfortunately, this creates quite an issue especially since certbot
nginx plugin invokes a reload.

I have just faced this and kbd_mode -s also fixed the issue for me. The
behavior started out of nothing (something I did without perceiving most
likely). I'm using:

varying levels of issues with DAV on nginx accepting the PUT over SSL
from sosreport, but that's unrelated to sosreport itself.

Kernel in proposed solved the problem, system can now boot correctly
with monitor connected on WD19 docking, with docking connected on system
TBT port. Done 10 cold boot and 10 warm boot cycles, all pass.
