after several aptempts to install Ubuntu 15.04 with defaut configuration
in UEFI mode (instalation was done in legacy mode) I formated the HDD
with GPT partition table and created custom patitions. During
installation the message failed to install grub.. appeared.
Occurred after updating to kernel 3.13.0-1.
After updating kernel and logging in nothing but the background was visible
To fix this i removed fglrx-updates and after rebooted.
The error report was presented after reboot.

Confirming that the installation of linux-backports-modules-2.6.31-14-generic
solved the problem for me. However, iwconfig still shows Bit Rate=0 kb/s,
while network-manager says 9 MBit (2m with line-of-sight from Router).
A quick 1 min iperf-test to my desktop-machine (Win7, sorry,
thank you wild_oscar, i was lost as well.
i hope that option will (re)appear soon in gnome-volume-control

I did some testing: If you leave the computer alone after startup for 1
or 2 minutes it often works, but almost never if you try to transfer
data immediately after aquiring a ip address.
I have another notebook with an Intel 3945abg wireless card wich does
not have this issue

I wasted 2 Verbatim DVD+R trying to burn an Xbox360 image with the following:

Both times I got this error (can't remember the first one, but i am pretty sure

I've tried kernel 2.6.24-rc1 (driver is included here for first time,
version 2.0.10) and there is no clearly visible progress in speed for me
(I'm using WPA). But you can try to use Windows driver through
ndiswrapper. It is fast, NetworkManager compatible (with WPA too) and
even signal strength
Same problem.
Installing libdvdnav4 didn't help me (too). Same thing in all mplayer packages
(-nogui, gnome-mplayer and so on).

I would like to say that this new driver works (with rt2400 pcmcia
card). Yes, it has problems like slow performance, falling connection,
no signal strength reporting, errors and lockups on suspend, so it is
unusable right now. But it works, it supports wireless extensions, it
can scan air, it
Ralink driver is under heavy development. If may be already solved, but
I'm quite sure this can't be done (or is very hard to do) in this kernel
version. You can try to compile newer version yourself.

Fixed by editing /etc/default/acpi-support and changing SAVE_VBE_STATE
