I have noticed also that Firefox tries to open .doc files with gedit, but .docx
file are associated correctly with Libreoffice and work fine.

The ISO CD image for Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop/PPC cannot be burned onto a
CDROM because it is too large (705MB). In the daily builds, this fact is
noted as a bug, however this has not been fixed in the official release.

I had the same issue with the boot process hanging during the configuring
network interfaces stage and I solved it reverting the change in
/etc/network/interfaces that very likely happened during the upgrade from 8.04
to 8.10.
In 8.04 I had in /etc/network/interfaces the following
Is anybody still looking into this issue?
Can anybody give me a hint where I should start to debug this issue?
Is removing UUIDs from fstab the only accepted solution?

I can confirm this problem exists also on my laptop with Intrepid
(updated from Hardy) and in my case it's not depending on the mismatched
UUID in fstab.
The swap is not mounted at all at boot time and running manually a sudo swapon
-a -e wouldn't do anything either.
