When I write using dasher, which is set to normal mode, I often have the
following: my display becomes black and the power button of my monitor
flashes indicating that it is into sleep mode.
This only happens when I am using dasher in Unity; it does not happen in
Unity 2D.
Do you have the force to top mode in the Onboard Preferences enabled? If
so, please try to disable this option for a moment; this might make
Onboard move back into the screen.

Here is a work around that should work also for pointer only users; but
if you are running Onboard 0.96.x, you also need a second onscreen
keyboard; for Onboard up to 0.95.x included, a second onscreen keyboard
is not necessary.

You are right: though double clicking the global menu unmaximizes a
window in Unity 3D, it does not do it in Unity 2D by default and I don't
know whether there is a setting to configure that behaviour in Unity 2D.

New minor release available: version 0.95.0 - diff.gz provided
As far as I know, they were patching the desktop icons of onboard and
orca because they did not want the Universal Access menu to be visible
on a default installation. But with the new Unity interface, this might
change now.
The situation might however be more complex than I anticipated. Setting
Onboard ships with visible desktop items, but the package patches it to
hide them. I suppose that eliminating the patch should solve the
problem.

Since there is no menu entry for Onboard, the only way the user starts
this application is using the terminal.
FYI: The onboard source package ships with menu entries. However, they
get patched in the debian package in order to hide them by default.

written for the old GDM. Since karmic, Ubuntu is shipping the new GDM
that offers an accessibility icon to open the accessibility dialog which
contains a checkbox to start the onscreen keyboard.

Next to the onboard icon, there should also be an onboard-settings icon.
Simply open onboard-settings by clicking on the icon or by typing the
name in the terminal and the configuration window will open, where you
can change layout.

Onboard does not depend on the accessibility framework. Onboard is a rather
simple onscreen keyboard and thus it wanted to avoid the issues involved when

First of all, sorry for not replying to your first request; it has been
all the time on my ToDo list, but unfortunately, I kept postponing it.
Today, I performed a few tests and the problem seems to have disappeared.
- I uninstalled the version compiled manually and installed the

Thanks for the feedback, but the problem is the other way round:
The source package of onboard uses the style attribute in the svg files.
Recently canonical introduced dh-scour in its packaging system that
tries to optimize the svg files and that changes the style attribute
into fill and
