I'm back. I'm a little embarrassed to reveal that what I reported as a
bug turned out to be a matter of setting the system to run wayland or
xorg. Apparently the OS is set to run wayland by default. Unless one
sets it to run xorg via the button on the lower right side of the sign
in screen -
I'd like to mention that before I scrapped Ubuntu 21.10 because of the
continual crashes, it was working beautifully. Everything responded
faster - programs loading, web sites loading, pictures, etc. I still
don't know why it started crashing. Perhaps version 22 will be better.

to the problem I'm having. It's not my HDMI display that's freezing, but
the system itself. No matter. I scrapped 21.10 and went back to 21.04. I
read a suggestion that stated that it would be better to wait for
version 22 to
