I have experienced this bug since upgrading from Precise Pangolin. After

I am getting the same issues you are describing on a Dell XPS 17 L702.
UEFI booting is not an available option, nor is a BIOS update (checked
the Dell site for newer BIOS). I grabbed the casper.log and the dmesg
output in case that provides any insights.

found out something strange ..

work
su - holger -c export $dbusaddr; qdbus org.kde.kded...
produces the message: qdbus: could not find a Qt installation of ''
