I think this has something to do with the way the way hotkeys are
delivered as keyboard keys and lid close is treated as a signal in
gnome-settings-daemon. You can reproduce this issue by selecting
Suspend from the menu, and then closing the lid, but you can not
reproduce by selecting Suspend and

There seem to be indications that they're removing libgnomekbd from
future versions of gnome, so it is likely that we will not have this

. As far as I can tell, this happens because upower expects some battery
to be there that isn't there. In bug 929755, it's a wiimote, in other
cases, it's a bluetooth mouse.
Okay, I've figured out the sigtrap confusion. Apparently, it's what the
Gnome devs think is a good signal to tie in to g_error() if you have
debugging turned on (we compile glib with debugging turned on?).
