(installed on Hardy). The nvidia driver package from nvidia.com refuses
to install since Xen support is enabled in the kernel config. To stay
afloat, I'm currently running 2.6.27-server with the restricted-modules
package and

When you said desktop and server packages, where you refering to the
generic and server packages? If so, then the problem has actually
gotten worse, as the generic kernel has not been a problem up till now.

I upgraded to the latest server kernel a few days ago. The Xen support
is still enabled, so this bug is not fixed (and hence, nVidia driver
failed to install from the nVidia.com package). I'm running off the
Generic kernel at the moment so that I can get the nVidia driver to
actually install.

Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone enlighten me as to why there needs
to be a separate package for modules? I can understand the restricted
modules package, but I don't see any good reason to ship sound drivers
in a separate package from the rest of the kernel's hardware drivers.

It looks like the sound drivers weren't built for the last kernel update
(2.6.24-12). If you go into /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/sound/,
you'll see that only soundcore.ko and ac97_bus.ko were built (or
included?).

I just compiled kdeutils 3.5.9 from source, and this problem seems to be
fixed, though one of the patches needs to be tweaked to get it compile.
I'm attaching my modified patch file for that in case someone finds it
useful.
I'm seeing similar things here. I can't raise the volume about 40%
here. I opened Kmix and watched it while I raised and lowered the
volume with the hotkeys. It seems it's adjusting the Treble control
along with the master volume (although it's adjusting the Treble at a
different ratio than the
3d control - depth is probably just some feature of your
soundcard/driver that is supposed to give sound output more of a
surround sound effect.

I think my issue is the same. On connecting to a given network for the
first time, everything works great. However, the next time I go to
connect to that network, it always fails. Using the Connect to other
network option does work (but that gets really old really fast :) ).

After further investigation later, I found a faulty patch cable to be
the issue (go figure). I'd been using that cable for as long as the
CIFS server was in use, but at some point, it just decided to not work
properly. I replaced the cable, and the speed issues disappeared.

i810-based chipset, and a ATI Rage 128 in a PCI slot. I was able to

(actually re-installed) the libxine-extracodecs package on my Dapper
box, and I'm now getting this slightly different error:
