I too had this problem on my Lenovo SL510 with Ubuntu 13.10.
However this solved the problem for me:
In Synaptic I found 4 ibus related packages with status 'installed, but
upgradable'. I upgraded these, and now the corrupted chars problem seems
to be gone.

I have found that the single-touch version (if the firmware is removed--
it also does not provide a firmware version) is no longer reporting
correctly. I am pretty sure that the Vista firmware will report the
same issues. The hid-ntrig.c source is only calling report_frame when
I have just installed Karmic on my laptop and installed kaffeine. I
left out libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4 and found that it now just segfaults
instead of producing a message. Once libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4 are
installed, the application works fine.

I have similar problems. However, I believe the problem occurs when
trying to play two different sound sources at once. For instance, open
RhythmBox and play an mp3. Sound will work fine. Keep that playing and
then open a browser and watch a video or any other sound producing

speaker output for me. Can anyone else confirm this?

I can also confirm that Arnaud's solution works on my laptop. I just
got the laptop, but I think it is actually a model 1100 although I am
a bit unsure. It is still part of the 1000 Mini line. Here is my
soundcard from lspci -v:
Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
I am able to reproduce the problem in 9.04 UNR with GNASH as well.

I tried the PPA option and it didn't work for me. I am running 9.04 on
a mini 1000 and I still have no sound. I bought the laptop with the HP
Mi edition, so isn't it weird that sound worked there but not in regular
Ubuntu?

not get called when libxine1-ffmpeg is not installed. Instead it looks

driver that worked. The issue is not on the Ubuntu developer's side
because the same problem occurs in other Linux distros (I am also using
Arch and Gentoo).

well- the Fedora ones- and the driver works well) included in 8.04?

install, my xorg.conf is similar to the one that is posted by
linuxer101. Normally the install will detect the touchpad but it did
not find it this time. I ended up using my xorg.conf from Gutsy to make

I am running 2.6.22-14-generic #1 currently and still have the
problem. Our laptops use the same chipset, in fact, they are almost
identical (running MX3414). I just tested again to make sure last
night, and the problem still applies as soon as I join a WEP network.

I'm running the RTL8185 as well. I just downloaded and installed a new
copy of 7.10 and I still have this problem. Viaken, what did you do to
fix this? Similarly, without WAP or WEP, I have no problems, but with
encryption enabled, I get the hard freeze along with the blinking caps
lock light.

The module worked in Edgy too, but with one serious problem that still
remains. For people like me who use their laptop in a building with
lots of access points with the same essid (school), the lack of a signal
level is very troublesome. The wireless will drop from one access point
and pick up

I have installed Beta today (upgrade from Edgy) and I noticed the
reference in the blacklist. Has this issue been addressed so that I can
remove the rt818x reference from the blacklist? I use an 8185. I am
willing to provide any information required to get this figured out.
