I also tried upstream kernel 4.5.2-040502-generic, which solves the
problem except that it cannot wake up from hibernate. So I'm sticking
with 4.2.0-35-generic for now.

I have similar experiences since I upgraded from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04.
