Tests with the mainline 2.6.30-rc8 kernel on the Vostro 220's were quite
stable under load, unlike the 2.6.28 kernels. So Ubuntu 9.10 is likely
to be OK on this generation of Dell hardware.

reset (by any of: inbound ping leading to self-recovery, unplug replug

I just tried the Fedora 10 live KDE CD, and it's the first Linux which

2) installed the madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6 drivers from svn.madwifi.org along

kwrobel2005's openoffice no font antialiasing works for me, though the
resulting visual appearance degrades. mkie2357's subpixel smoothing

It really does seem to be a compiz problem in intrepid; I had it on a
Toshiba laptop with an ATI video chip. On an old Compaq presario with
an nvidia geforce 440 and the unaccelerated nv driver I didn't have
the bug. As soon as the binary nvidia driver turned up, with compiz
