I have the same issue on a Lenovo T530 (with a normal old disk) - I have
also seen them well after start-up, where the laptop screen will
suddenly switch to black screen with text and mouse pointer, while my
external monitor remains as before (see bug 1077516)

Tried again this morning after firefox was updated to 4.0.1 - same
behaviour, but the window now corrects itself once you've changed focus
(using alt+tab).

I have the same problem. However, I'm able to work around the problem by
unticking the show_suppressed option via gconf-editor:
1. Stop evolution and start gconf-editor
2. Navigate to the /apps/evolution/eplugin/prefer_plain folder
3. There are (in my installation) two options: mode: prefer_plain
Not quite for me.
It did remove the minimise/maximise delay, but it introduced big black
sections within the application windows - especially when using
Thunderbird or Nautilus. The windows basically looked like they were
trying to refreshed but couldn't and resolved into a black square. E.g.,

thanks for your suggestions. I did the following:
- uninstalled fglrx driver (latest distributed with Ubuntu - ATI driver version
10.5 I believe) reverting back to the open source driver
- reverted back to unpatched xserver
- rebooted into recovery mode
- installed the new ATI driver
Re-installed Lucid Lynx today which fixed the problem. No idea what made
the difference. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I've tried the backport for alsa - no luck.
There is 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' device present in sound
preferences...
I can hear an echo from the mic feeding back into my laptop speakers, so
I'm sure it's not a hardware problem.
