I managed to get the card back with pulseaudio:
- logout of desktop session/xrdp
- systemctl restart xrdp
- unplug usb sound card from Ubuntu (this is not a usb redirection issue)
- login to xrdp
- run pulseaudio-dlna python script (not sure if it's related but was running

Title:
Doesn't help me as I'm running Intrepid. I tried running the latest
kernel linux-image-2.6.27-17-server from synaptic, booted and the disks
weren't discovered. If there are any other Intrepid kernels to try I'd
like to know.

Starting with a minimal ubuntu intrepid install, and enough packages to
get gnome-session running, I was able to run gnome-session over ssh
using:
ssh -X -C -f a.b.c.d gnome-session
which let me start a usable desktop. This seemed to work fine.
Then I added more packages,

I tried the 2.6.28 kernel from jaunty on my Intrepid system and this

Bugs,
I tried the 2.6.28-4.10 kernel from Jaunty
(linux-image-2.6.28-4-server_2.6.28-4.10_i386.deb) and it works in the sense
that it correctly detects the hpt302n card, using the pata_hpt37x driver. This
ran for a few minutes before the driver hitting an error, and mdadm failing the
drive. I
note that in 2.6.25-2-386, it's using the old hpt366, and in newer
libata, it's trying to use pata_hpt37x instead of pata_hpt366
