For a casualty do you use to navigate a proxy or something? any way, I
tried to reproduce this issue here with 1.9.3 release from daily ppa and
works fine for me (Ubuntu Maverick).

after run sudo add-apt-repository ppa:software-store-developers/daily-
build and then installing python-piston-mini-client software-center with
reviews inside is working fine.

Gunnar, I recently tried to run your branch but I got a TraceBack:

Please could be possible if you can try to reproduce this issue with
latest release available from daily ppa repository? there is a 1.9.2
release there that has lot of improvements, features and fixes.
