Hello,
Ubuntu: 9.10 32 Bit
When I put my computer into standby via the gnome button, it goes into
standby as it should and it wakes up, when I push the Power Button. All
works fine. But when I want to shutdown the computer, it does everything

I have two monitors with the radeon (not fglrx) driver and it happens on
either screen. From what I have seen it appears to happen on all
computers independent of the video driver

Andrew, are you pressing Enter key to connect or clicking the mouse on
the Connect button?
It appears to only occur when Computer field is focused and Enter is
pressed

In my case, root was formatted as XFS.
I used a ext2 /boot partition (also used by 8.04) due to the root partition
being past the maximum cylinders for boot

I have experienced a similar issue.
Installed from 8.10 beta AMD64 desktop cd. I selected a fresh root fs,
but selected an existing ext2 fs as /boot without format. (This
partition used for /boot in 8.04)
After install, grub was configured with 8.04 kernels (2.6.24-X) with
8.10 fs as root
