GNOME Contacts has this same issue. And I'm not sure if the fix provided
for Evolution will propagate to GNOME Contacts.

This bug is still present in Xubuntu 16.04.1. It is not specific to
nVidia or DisplayPort hardware.
If I power off the Sony TV to which the Xubuntu machine is connected via
HDMI, when the TV is powered on there is no signal to the TV.
Restarting lightdm will return video output, but not audio.

FLV and Flash are proprietary codecs, formats, and tools. The fact you
see different quality in Windows vs. Linux is probably due more to the
deltas in the Windows and Linux Flash codebase at Adobe than it is to
any inherent Ubuntu media handling.

AWT filters out all ConfigureNotify if the toplevel is not reparented.
As Compiz and other compositors do not reparent windows, this
effectively breaks (re)draw for many Swing apps (e.g. jIRCii and
Frostwire).
The simple fix is to define a working AWT toolkit in the
