In my 12.10, if I go to the bottom right "hot corner", I see a question
mark. Clicking there shows all requests with the option to "accept" or
"deny" the contact. Actually, I am looking for a way to disable these
messages that I keep getting from webcam girls...

The same (loss of GLX functionality) happened to me after an upgrade
from 10.04 to 10.10. It's on a desktop with on Intel 82Q35 Express
Integrated Graphics controller (rev02). The motherboard is an Intel
82801. For what's worth: my colleague runs the 64bit version of Ubuntu
