to upload an image for an advertisement.

The symptoms of this bug seem to correlate with the hardware used when I filed
this bug. I put the harddisk into a more modern system and the symptoms
disappeared.
This ceased to be an issue because I disposed the affected hardware.

Simplifying my /etc/X11/xorg.conf (on Lucid Lynx) made the symptoms disappear.
So I'm not sure whether it's a bug in the X server, gstreamer or no bug at all.
My handwritten xorg.conf is necessary because of #194760.
So I don't consider it useful to test this on Maverick.

The appearance of this bug seems to be changed. When I login the fist time
after boot, the normal (non failsafe) session works.
When I log off and try login again the session doesn't become usable. The

I've installed Karmic-alpha which I downloaded today.
The harddisk is 160 GB. The first partition was a WinXP recovery partition with
about 17 GB. The second partition covered the rest of the harddisk.
I chost to let the installer automaticaly create the partitions for the
installation.

onto it in nautilus then, select burn to CD (700 MB CD-R is inserted)
and then try to burn it to disk brasero fails after a short time. The
CD isn't usable (neither for writing nor reading).

The gnome-display-properties told me that it didn't recognice the
monitor. The Xorg.0.log is from the Karmic live system on my computer (I
didn't install it).

Further discovery - after trying to switch user the last lines of dmesg
are:

With upgrade to hardy the highest possible resolution reduced to 800x600.
In gutsy and dapper the highest resolution was [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hz on the same
hardware.
The system was upgraded from dapper to hardy.
