I'm facing this problem or something very simmilar in Ubuntu 11.04.
The first symptom is nm-applet not able to associate with a Wifi
network. Logs shows that network manager manage to associate with the
access point, eventually the interface will get an IP address but as nm-
applet or network
I face this problem when adding additional locations.
I'm in Moscow and my timezone is ok, so it is for most location but
datetime-indicator insists to put New-York in GMT when obviously it's not.

without success.
When I noticed that unity tried to replace compliz and that I still had
a old (pid ~3300, when current pid was ~28000) I tried to kill compiz,

The problem seems very nasty now with 10.10 as network manager insists
on adding an entry with the hostname of the machine and 127.0.0.1 so
everytime you use the myIpAddress function you have always 127.0.0.1 !
The test.html file attached allow to show
The idea of the patch is to skip the 127.0.0.1 ip address.
Another solution might be to return not 1 address with myIpAddress but
an array of addresses.

Brian, sorry I'm not quite sure I get the question. So the applet

On Kubuntu 6.06 udev is launched early in the boot process (S10 in rcS.d) which
is good for loading the driver but not great for the configuration of the
device because configuring the device might require other componenents
(started after S10).
The root problem is that cdrecord scan /dev/sg* device when you specify
dev=bus,target,lun, because 1,0,0 is not necesserly mapped to /dev/sg1.
If you have a sata or scsi drive then you've got a /dev/sg* entry for this
device and since it's a drive a simple user has no read/write access
Needless to say that with the growing number of sata drive in the laptop
and workstation this bug will be more and more anoying and will give a
very bad image of *ubuntu distro ...
