I have the same exact problem, except with Gutsy instead of Hardy. I
have a system with an i815 chipset and a GeForce 6600GT AGP graphics
card. (I know, my chipset (and processor) are way to slow for my GFX
card, but this would not cause my problem.) I have tried with both the
agpgart driver

I am using Kubuntu Gutsy with all of the latest stable packages applied.
When I attempt to connect to my PC over VNC, it works correctly at
first. However, as soon as I unlock my PC, the screensaver immediately

The new release, 7.10 (Gutsy) fixes this problem completely for me. All
drives now work without anything special, and it does not take forever
to boot up. I have tried the Tribe 5, Beta, RC, and Final versions, and
all work fine.

I have exactly the same problem. I just installed Kubuntu on my PC
using Wubi, and when I tell it to boot stalls and then displays the
following error:

An update: I just checked, and my lite-on CDRW is NOT working. hmm.

I just tried updating the firmware on my Lite-On drive. It did not

I decided to get rid of gnome-screensaver and use xscreensaver instead.
This works much better, but the latest version of xscreensaver is not in
the repository. Why?
