CUPS generate non-globalized PPD in this context, so I believe it should
put LanguageVersion/LanguageEncoding as follows the locale of strings,
not hard-code to English/ISOLatin1.

This issue seems to be coming from the generated PPD file with wrong

I tried with Epson EP-879AW.
Steps to reproduce:

Thank you for reporting the issue to upstream. It's great to see that
CUPS master already fix it.
Now I'm trying to confirm that fix solve my problem using rebuilt Zenial CUPS
package with the patch.
Following lpadmin command generates collect PPD (attached) and I can get
printouts in color
One more question: do you have any plan to backport it to Zenial?

Since 0.7.71+-svn1399-0ubuntu2, S-C-P use Ubuntu specific test page data and
does not use CUPS test page function.
So, we have to change tool tip string:
../printerproperties.py:584
also should be Ubuntu test page or such kind of words instead of S-C-P
upstream string;
In addition, CUPS and related modules can handle generic (multilingual)
PPD right; actually EPSON PX-503A by EPSON installed via S-C-P automatic
download install.

I have same problem with Polaroid PoGo in Karmic.
This small printer accept JPEG data via Bluetooth with BIP. It works perfectly
in Jaunty or Windows XP, but wrong output caused in Karmic.
I think my problem seems to relate this bug.
