Sorry spoke too soon, it worked with a brief period of suspend (screen
did go blank) but is not working again. Tried #93 for what I thought

Wouldn't recommend the course of action in 92, I've broken wifi after

I'm having the same problem 14.04 with rtl8187, toggling switches and
the workaround suggested above does not work. This has not been a
problem in previous versions of linux.

I'm having the same problem running lucid LTS once fan starts it doesn't
switch off. I have a fan control file but but unless this is not being
loaded it doesn't help. In 9.10 I had this problem but solved by
hacking grub with something I think
quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux

Can confirm the problem in 2.6.31-15-generic Karmic on Tosh sateillite
l350-262. I've bought a new laptop due to motherboard failure but
reception was much better on old laptop with different card in same
places in house. Speed is also erratic.

Definitely a bug on 8.10 no question this camera canon ixus 70 worked in
8.04 etc, the suggestion of switching the camera on then plugging in has
worked for me, but this was unnecessary before. Problem seems to have
gone away on Jaunty.

This is how I solved it. I installed the generic linux headers.
sudo aptitude install linux-ubuntu-modules-`uname -r` linux-generic
I was reluctant to do this in case it solved more problems than it
solved. This uninstalled some parts of a third party program but has
caused no problems. This

I've had a look at the debugging sound problems nothing has worked.
Gnome alsa mixer crashes out with a segmentation fault.
sudo aplay -l
[sudo] password for nrh1:
aplay: device_list:215: no soundcards found...
system -preferences-sound selecting alsa and test gives this message

Niloc's method works for me too. I still think this is a bug its very
difficult to manage wifi w/o it. Now I wonder what I have to add to get
my battery power applet to work

I've just updated to hardy and much to my surprise the wifi doesn't work

it. When the
