Automute detects that something is plugged into the jack. I'm wondering
if spdif is the only thing being used through the combo port. HDMI also
works... as a temporary solution we could use an hdmi to 3.5mm adapter.

It should be noted that HDMI, SPIF and Internal Speakers are the only
devices auto detected... we need to make it recognize the headphone
jack.

Found a workaround/solution. Just plug in some headphones and restart
the computer. Alsa will then recognize the combo port and kill the
internal speakers. Pluging the headphones in and out may cause sound to
play through both, speakers and headphones, just unplug the headphones,
mute the speakers
I guess I should mention how I fixed my problem. I went to the grub,
then to the previous kernel and rebuild packages. That solved my
problem. A week later I updated, no issues this time.

This should be marked a security issue. I have 5 different servers
running and I have no idea how to shut them down. It seems the community
is too focused on the modules and not the end result.

I was getting this exact problem. I was able to crash through them by
trying to install once, and then trying to upgrade the failed install.
This cause me to get a really retro UI. I'm hitting the update manager
to try to fix this uglyness. Cheers.
