I had to downgrade the mutter packages on Ubuntu 22.04.4 today as the
lag returned after the latest update. Did almost the same as Deku King
although opted to deprioritize the 42.9-0ubuntu7.1 packages instead of

In dmesg log, i saw a line starting with "mar 20 02:04:10 eduapps
whoopsie-upload-all[8574]" which was written by whoopsie that gave me a
brave crash log.
brave crash log is big but gives good info of what's going on. if you
search for the word "SIGSEGV" you will find where the error occurs.

Thanks for the instructions. So I added the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=nocrs" and updated grub. I
rebooted the machine at least five times and the touchpad never worked -
I had to use an external mouse. This is a bit different in a sense that

Hi, I have just run into the same random touchpad problem as others with
my Lenovo Ideapad 5 14are05 running on Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel
5.8.0-50-generic.
I would like to ask what is the status with this issue?

Yes, thanks for this. Even whilst posting I had the feeling it would be
something like that because of a similar wobbly installing the 64bit
ubuntu on a pi 4, when followed with ssd transfer.
Probably due to /boot/firmware not being a thing for ubuntu generally
but only for raspberry pis? I think

Slightly confusing as there appear to be two tickets about this in my 'area',

Ubuntu 20.04. I had to wait 25 seconds before being able to login each time I
lock my screen.
