Hmmm OK. Have managed to get 2.6.24-14 working again (except it's
showing as Hardy) have uninstalled 2.6.24-19 (as far as I am able to
determine (everything is showing as uninstalled in Synaptic) but now,
when I try to upgrade to 2.6.24-19 again, it tells me there is no
upgrade available.

Well, having tried all the various options given here and elsewhere,
I've finally managed to get back into 2.6.22-14. Now the only remaining
question is - how do I get rid of the broken 2.6.24-19 and reinstall?
(as it still won't boot into it - I just get the [initramfs] error...

I'm also having problems with this. Tried all of the above but I keep
