Post-upgrade from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS, GTK cannot open .png files

After following the instructions from the RAM support tech:
- Change CPU bus to 233 from 200
- Change CPU multiplier to restore stock clock (actually a slight overclock)
- Change DRAM voltage from 1.5 to 1.6
- Increase CPU-NB voltage by 0.1V

Re-installing shared-mime-info and running the update-mime-database
command fixed this.
Bug can be closed, I guess.
Note that the update also trashed pam (I had to reinstall that and run
the pam update script). Grub2 was borked and required a patch and a
workaround. Firefox is now randomly

Me too.
Tried installing Fedora 11 Beta, then Fedora 10 (Fedora is my usual
distribution) and had NO luck whatsoever. Installed the latest Ubuntu
out of sheer frustration and it Just Worked - except that when Grub
boots, it'll hang for about 30 seconds, flash the soft rest failed
messages for
