Received these error codes when attempting to download yesterday's six-
file update for Lucid. The preceding major update appeared to cause a
major grub error that killed my installation and continued to affect
subsequent reinstallations

I also note that the bug report itself refers to the system architecture
as amd64 (?? maybe this is a generic ID that's referring to the 64 bit
live CD?) in one place and to x86_64 elsewhere (locally correct).

Got into system through live CD, /boot/grub is unconfigured. I am off to
determine just what should be done about that.

Fixed. Auto update copied all /boot files to main root partition instead
of separate /boot partition used on this system. Hasn't had this problem
before. So it can be fixed through the live CD, per these comments. And
it still may be a bug in the Ubuntu update system.

Opera worked ok until this morning. I had just downloaded two updates for the
x11 libs using the update manager.
Being new to ubuntu I cannot find the log to tell me exactly what they were.
