Unfortunately, in my case I ended up with a no-longer-bootable USB
drive. :-( Please let me know if there is anything specific I should
look for to help you understand why this happened.

I recently grabbed the 10.4 Ubuntu Netbook Remix ISO and installed it
onto a USB stick (as per the instructions to do so using Windows). UNR
is on an 8GB stick with a 4GB casper-rw area. As supplied, the system
boots and runs fine.

Sorry for not updating this bug report earlier. After performing a clean
install using v9.10 it seems that the sound card is once more recognized
and operating correctly. I'm guessing this bug can be closed. :-)

Yamaha YMF-724F sound card not recognized
Apparently I had a bad brain moment when typing in the initial
submission - the package update which triggered the fault was between
*March* 14th - 31st, not May as stated initially. Sorry about that.

root cause) the YMF-724F sound card (which appeared to be operating
correctly under 8.10) fails under 8.10.2.

While the Debugging Hardware Detection page requests the addition of the
log generated by performing cat /proc/version_signature
proc_version_signature.log, Bash reports that /proc/version_signature
does not exist. /proc/version did exist and a log of that is attached.

I'm suffering from the same problem. I know it's marked as being of low
importance, but it's anything but as far as I am concerned. The
workaround mentioned does not work for me either.
I don't know if it is relevant to the problem, but the burner in
question in my scenario is an external USB
