You asked for some more details regarding the filenames on the thumb drive...I
have a directory on
my thumbdrive that has multiple executable files on it that runs a tcl
(starkit) file with my passwords
in it. (output is from ubuntu 9.10). Ubuntu 9.10 mounts the thumbdrive as
/media/HP 125W/.
I forgot to add the mount information:
/dev/sdb1 on /media/HP v125w type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush)

Could not able to run the executable from the USB flash drive only in Ubuntu
10.10

Hi All:
I finally had a chance to test the alpha release of intrepid ibex running off
the livecd...The new kernel handled both types of disks correctly. (A minor
comment: the pata drive was assigned as sda and the sata drive as sdb, this
messed up my /etc/fstab. This is easily fixable).
sorry
here are the answers to your questions:
uname -a:
Linux ron-amd64 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Wed May 28 19:28:38 UTC 2008

8.04 won't boot off of sata drive
Note: removing the PATA drive allowed the system to boot, but the IDE dvd/cd
burner would run very very
slowly (1.0x). If I use the all_generic_ide parameter on the grub menu.lst,
things would work normally
(including fast dvd/cd burning).

Public bug reported:
system was working and stable with current 7.10. When I upgraded to 8.04 the
system would not reliably (i.e. maybe work 1 every 20 tries) boot. System
configuration is as follows: dual core AMD64 X2 4600+, ASUS A8N-VM CSM
motherboard, nVidia MCP51 chipset, MAXTOR STM316081
