It seems three things are associated with the freezes:
1) The null pointer dereference kernel oops mentioned in the description, along
with most kern.log's.
2) The segfault in soprano.so (mentioned in Comment #31)

Unfortunately that list isn't incredibly helpful because you updated at
least 50 packages at the same time. My bet is it's either one of the
mesa packages or the gtk update. But neither is very easy to test
through downgrading because of dependency issues.

REISUB is indeed a Magic SysRq combination. It's like your s+b combo, but

Please reboot your system and then reproduce the issue. Then type
Ctrl+Alt+F1. Login and then type cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Xorg.0.log.txt. Also run cat /var/log/dmesg dmesg.txt. These will
create two log files named Xorg.0.log.txt and dmesg.txt in your home
folder.
Restart X by running startx. If

This functionality already exists in the ppa-purge package from xorg-
edgers, so it should be as easy as running or porting that script when a
PPA is removed or unchecked in Synaptic.
