Tried the latest upstream kernel as suggested however it seems this no longer contains the driver for my card. I removed the blacklist entry and booted 3.0.0-16-generic-pae - card picked up but unsuccesful in connecting and seemed to cause kernel stalls and system hang. Booted 3.3.0-999-generic-

Please note that as a work-around I have installed a realtek USB Wifi dongle based on a later Realtek chip. This works just fine and reports the correct speed. I have had to blacklist the RLT8192 as it hangs my system if it connects to a Wifi Network with no security please advise if you need me
