Same bug on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS with Banshee 2.9.0+really2.6.2-7ubuntu3.
I've had this bug for a while and already back on Ubuntu 16.04 if I
remember correctly. I run multiple machines and always fresh install
each LTS.

Ran into the same issue today, tried a lot of stuff before being able to
eventually fix it. I had to wipe my entire Banshee installation (I
deleted all the Banshee files on my machine and ran sudo apt purge
banshee + apt autoremove & apt autoclean) then rebooted my system and
reinstalled banshee.
To disable the podcast plugin you have to go to
Edit>Preferences>Extensions and then in the top section named "Core" .
There, you just have to uncheck the line which says "Podcasts".

Found the trick! Just disable the "Podcasts" plugin and everything will
be good ;)
