requiring me to reboot via the power key (I push the power key and the
machine reboots, which is also odd). I'm using the generic kernel. So
far, the second boot has always worked.

Hi.
Here is a copy/paste from a Debian bug report (mine). I think that "auto"
doesn't work. By googling I came across this.
Ubuntu most likely has the same problem.
Nautilus behaves correctly when a ext3 share is forced to case-sensitive
"yes", but it doesn't work with "auto". Therefore, seems
For a slightly different perspective on this bug, see

However, it's true that the old behaviour was not great: openoffice didn't seem
to react to session exits (logouts), for example.

Bryce,
Hi. Sometime ago I changed my Ubuntu installations for Debian Lenny.
Even three months ago, this fixed the problems with Virtualbox, and also
with some suspend resume issues. I strongly suspect that the 2.6.24
kernel of Hardy was the problem; since I moved to Debian I've been using
2.6.26. I
Hi Chris. I swapped to using Debian Lenny a couple of months ago, so I
don't know if the problem still exists.

For what it's worth, on that toshiba laptop, I'm now running Debian
Lenny, although I took kernel 2.6.26 when it was still only in Sid. With
this kernel, no problems with the backlight. Lenny has xserver versions
pretty similar to Hardy, so I think the kernel may be the source of the
problem.

I got this:
Downgrade the following packages:
python2.5 [2.5.2-2ubuntu5 (now) -> 2.5.2-2ubuntu
I mean to say that when trying to install python2.5-dev, I get the
error.

The Debian maintainers patched the Debian packages some weeks ago to fix
this bug, so I guess eventually Ubuntu will patch as well.
