I'm really sorry for the delay... been busy lately.
Good news, bad news.
The good news is, I used the same ISO i had originally downloaded (which passed
the checksum as i had indicated) and created a new bootable installation USB
stick (using PenDriveLinux Universal USB Installer...
Ok, i did an MD5sum check on the ISO, ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-
amd64.iso, and it matches what is listed on the UbuntuHashes webpage:
