In fact udev is supposed to load the firmware in case isight when the isight-firmware-tools is installed and isight is present. Look at /etc/udev/rules.d/isight.rules. Note that /proc/sys/usb must have been mounted when udev loads modules for ift-load to work. -- uvcvideo: iSight firmware
