Have no Gnome desktop so didn't know if this was an error or a feature.
Having played a bit with 15.04 I found several changes in the way applications
work. Most of them are not beneficial.

I can confirm this behaviour. In fact, this is sufficient.
I don't believe there should be a way in thunderbird to mount volumes. This is
the responsibility of other applications.

thank you for your suggestion.
I found out about the xorg-edgers files by going through synaptic descriptions.
After manually removing all references and deinstalling facebook account
settings the upgrade went smoothly.
